Marathon de Charleroi: Resilience on the Tarmac

Documenting the Charleroi Marathon requires an appreciation for the city's unique architectural contrasts. To tell the full story of the race, I positioned myself at two highly distinct vantage points. The first location on the Rue du Port captures the raw grit of the marathon, framing runners against the stark, iconic silhouette of the city's historic industrial chimneys. The second position contrasts this industrial heritage with urban grandeur, placing me on the Pont Roi Baudouin. From here, I captured the athletes head-on, using the majestic glass facade and classic architecture of the Charleroi train station as a bright, dynamic backdrop. Together, these two micro-locations perfectly encapsulate the physical resilience of the runners and the striking visual identity of the city.
